Australian Occupational Health and Safety Legislation requires employers to
recruit competent people to provide advice on OHS issues.
If those issues include noise, hazardous substances, radiation, confined spaces,
sick building syndrome, or other issues where a scientific approach to the
assessment of physical or chemical hazards is required,
you should be thinking of an occupational hygienist.
If you want to employ an Accountant, wouldn't you want that person to be a CPA,
and wouldn't you expect the same professional competence for an Occupational Hygienist?
The AIOH represents Occupational Hygienists in Australia and has grades of
membership that may be used to determine a Hygienist's level of competency.
