MEETING GLOBAL CHALLENGES IN OCCUPATIONAL HYGIENE
| On December the 1st 2012 Occupational Hygienists, Health Professionals, other interested persons our sponsors and exhibitors will gather for the 30th time since 1982 for the Conference of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists. In that time the Institute has grown from just a handful of scientists and engineers working chiefly in the public sector to an organisation of over 1000 members with a Conference that now attracts more than 500 people. Much has changed since 1982 however the commitment to achieve healthy workplaces has been constant. | |
| Theme: | The Conference theme is meeting global challenges in occupational hygiene. It is very clear that Australia influences and is influenced by the science and art of occupational hygiene in many sectors such as mining, defence, government and academia. Key health challenges include old enemies such as dusts, fibres chemicals and noise as well as potential new concerns such as nanoparticles. Legislative initiatives such as Reach in Europe will affect all of us. Closer to home we are seeing the first steps in the harmonisation process of health and safety legislation throughout Australia. |
| Continuing Education: | The first two days of the Conference are set aside for continuing education. These full and half day seminars cover a range of topics designed to provide expertise including personal professional development, as well as intermediate and advanced level training in a wide range of disciplines. |
| Scientific Programme: | There will be three broad themes over the three days covered by our International and Australian keynote and plenary speakers. The keynotes and plenaries will range from the latest research to strategic challenges in occupational hygiene. Applied Science including occupational hygiene issues in radiation health, challenges and developments in the military and mining environment as well as specific applied research. National and international strategies to control health affecting agents including perspectives from Europe, the UK and Australia. Specific technical challenges in exposure assessment and standard setting will also be covered. There will also be concurrent sessions where experiences and advances in occupational hygiene in Australia and internationally will be shared. |
| Call for Papers: | The 2012 Conference Scientific Committee are now calling for speakers to present a paper during the conference. For further information and to submit an abstrac click here. |
