President Elect
Sharann Johnson
Sharann Johnson recently joined Zinifex, the lead / zinc mining company, as their GM - Sustainable Development, responsible for Group Health, Safety and Environment . Previously she worked for BP for 30 years in corporate and within the businesses starting out as occupational hygienist for Australia and SW Pacific region, later working in London in corporate occupational health roles and then returning to Australia as Business HSE Manager. The last 10 years have involved her being a road warrior, working with operations and networks in Europe and Asia. However with the return to a job largely based in Australia, now gives her more time to make a contribution back to the profession. "I am very fortunate in that BP supported me to train as an occupational hygienist, use my chemistry / biochemistry background to work in operations and occupational health in a niche position some 30 years ago. I have truly enjoyed the challenges and opportunities associated with protecting the health and safety of workers and the community. It opened up a career in OHS which I am passionate about and delighted that there is again a lot of interest with young people moving into the field of occupational hygiene. The Institute has worked hard on developing education courses and publications and has become well recognized, both nationally and internationally, as the peak professional body. I look forward to building on these robust foundations and supporting the Institute members
