Hearing Awareness Week
22nd - 28th August 2010
In the past, emphasis has been on deafness outcomes and how to cope with this. There has been little prominence given to noise-induced hearing loss or to the preventive measures that might be applied in the workplace or at home. This then presents an opportunity for AIOH members to bring their knowledge and experience to bear in raising awareness of this important health issue.
The challenge is to be creative and do something different in an area where traditional approaches often fail to gain traction.
The Institute urges its members around Australia to initiate, or participate in, hearing conservation activities in the lead-up to, and during, Hearing Awareness Week. A large number of organisations, both private and public, actively participate in the week and many register their activities on the Hearing Awareness Week website at www.hearingawarenessweek.org.au. Institute members are encouraged to do likewise.
