Victorian Chapter of AIOH has been busily talking to local members and looking at opportunities to vary the format of how we meet. We are excited to announce our series of 'a day in the life of...' These events will focus on sharing an insight to real-world challenges and opportunities for Hygienists across the State, via site visits or 'virtual tours' plus discussion of what takes up our valuable time on a day-to-day basis.
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A GLASS MANUFACTURING PLANT
The Spotswood glass factory was established in 1890. The current site is a two furnace operation, with approximately 250 employees. The factory produces container glass, predominantly for Carlton & United Breweries (CUB), Schweppes and Kraft. Our tour will be facilitated by Wim Vanden Hil, the Site Environmental, Health and Safety Manager, and Prue Elms, the Regional Environmental Health and Safety Manager.
Wim has worked within Occupational Health, Safety and Environment field for 25 years. He has worked as a consultant for some of Australia’s largest companies before settling in to a role as the HSE Manager for a brake manufacturer in rural Victoria. The company was a Honeywell owned subsidiary where Wim experienced working for a large American Corporate. He has been able to transfer those skills to O-I Glass where he has been the EHS Manager in Spotswood facility for just on 1 year.
Prue has worked within the Occupational Health and Safety field since graduating RMIT Bachelor of Applied Science, Occupational Health and Safety in 2004. Working in manufacturing has always been her passion, with safety roles at Toyota, Bunnings Trade and for the last 7 years within various EHS roles at O-I Glass. She is currently the Regional EHS Manager based in Melbourne with a scope that covers plants in ANZ, South East Asia and China.
