The AIOH Technical Paper – Minimising uncertainties when sampling and analysing RCS has been prepared to provide guidance to occupational hygienists when planning, conducting, and reporting results of RCS measurements. It is envisaged the Paper will also assist other interested parties such as regulators, and organisations who commission workplace RCS measurements.
The guidance is related to the measurement and analysis of RCS and is based on AS2985:2009. The document provides practical information and best practice techniques for occupational hygienists who carry out RCS sampling and analysis to reduce measurement uncertainty.
Uncertainties in measurement arise from many factors and occur for all airborne contaminants to some degree but more attention has come to this issue recently due to proposed and actual lowered Workplace Exposure Standards (WES). AIOH members are reminded in this Technical Paper that when undertaking RCS measurements for determining compliance against WES it is essential to minimise all elements which can impact or influence the reliability, integrity and confidence of results obtained.
