
AIOH Council
Seven members of the AIOH form the AIOH Council. Each Councillor is elected by members at the AGM and the AIOH Council is responsible for managing the business affairs of the AIOH.
The AIOH Council comprises of an Executive Committee - President, President Elect, Secretary and Treasurer and three general Council positions.
The Executive Committee work with the AIOH Team to attend to the day-to-day affairs of the AIOH.
The AIOH's Rules and Statement of Purpose is the document that governs the way in which the AIOH operates and the reason for the establishment of the AIOH.
The AIOH encourages its members to get involved, and to understand the objectives and activities performed by the Council. The current Council comprises the following AIOH members:
President - Dr Julia Norris
Name: Dr Julia Norris, COH, FAIOH, FRACGP
Organisation: Occuhealth Pty, Ltd, Medical Director and Certified Occupational Hygienist
OH Specialisation: General Occupational Hygiene, Occupational Medicine, Health and Wellbeing
Other interests: Triathlon, open water swimming, mountain biking, adventure racing,
Reason for being on council: It is a great honour to hold the position of president with the AIOH, and I am passionate about leading the AIOH in our mission of “promoting and preserving the health and wellbeing of Australian workers”. My focus is on enhancing membership engagement and opportunities while strengthening our relationships with like minded organisations, allowing the AIOH to greater influence worker health, both in Australia and Internationally.
President Elect - Andrew Orfanos

OH Specialisation: Health & Hygiene Management Systems, Asbestos Management, Hazardous Chemicals Management, Drug & Alcohol Management
Other interests: Representative on the AIP Health Watch Study Advisory Committee, AIP Representative on Standards Australia Committee CH-31 Methods for Examination of Workplace Atmospheres, Passionate Liverpool and Adelaide Crows supporter
Reason for being on Council: I am at a point in my professional career where I want to give back to the organisation which has given me this fantastic vocation. I want to use my experience within academia and private industry to help Council deliver a risk based strategic improvement program that is both consistent with the Institute’s Vision of a Healthy Workplace and helps supports our members achieve their career goals within the profession of Occupational Hygiene.
Secretary - Simon Worland
Name: Simon Worland, MAIOH COH
Organisation: Rio Tinto, Health and Safety Specialist
OH Specialisation: Mining, Smelting, Refining, Biological Monitoring, Dermal Exposure
Other interests: Father of 3, gigging bass player, keen cheesemaker, regular guitarist at blues jams
Reason for being on Council: I strive to be a leader in Occupational Hygiene. I am honoured to be on AIOH council and relish the opportunity to expand the influence of the Institute to deliver outcomes aimed at delivering value for members and protecting the health of workers.
Councillor - Gillian Felton
Name: Gillian Felton, MAIOH COH
Organisation: Woodside Energy Ltd, Health & Hygiene Advisor
OH Specialisation: OH Generalist working as a Consultant before moving to moving more permanently into Oil & Gas.
Other interests: Outside of work I like to keep active playing and umpiring netball and going to the gym. The Pilbara also has many great places to explore and perfect weather to enjoy outdoor lifestyle. When its time to relax there is nothing better than a cuppa, freshly baked biscuit and a good book.
Reason for being on Council: The opportunity to be on council is a chance to give back to the AIOH and the that have provided me with many opportunities. As many in our profession understand, many workplaces still don’t know what occupation hygiene is and the value they can add to creating a healthy workplace and protect their workers. It would be amazing to be able to assist with increasing the profile of our profession.
Councillor - Dustin Bennett
Name: Dustin Bennett, MAIOH COH
Organisation: GCG health safety & hygiene
OH Specialisation: Principal Hygienist working across Resources, Heavy industry, Infrastructure, Defence and Government sectors.
Other interests: Casual bike rides every weekend with our twin 7 year olds. Dreaming of snowboarding between the odd overseas trip to get my fix. Watching the North QLD Cowboys and Daniel Ricciardo (F1).
Reason for being on Council: My motivation to be a part of the AIOH Council stems from watching the long list of selfless leaders in our professionals commit to improving worker health. I am proud to add to their story and help other motivated members.
Councillor - Elaine Lindars
Name: Dr Elaine Lindars, MAIOH COH, MRACI CChem, CPMSIA
Organisation: OHMS Hygiene
Director and Principal Hygienist working across mining, oil & gas, heavy industry, construction, and government sectors
OH Specialisation: General occupational hygiene and environmental chemist.
Other interests: Taxi driver for my 3 children to their multiple sports each week!
Reason for being on Council: Having been a regular AIOH contributor for many years I feel that the opportunity that has been given to me to be on Council allows me personally to be involved with the ongoing Institute improvements and give back to an Institute that I am proud to be a member of.
