The Risk Management (RM) Sub Committee is a cornerstone of the AIOH’s governance framework. Its role is to ensure the Institute operates in a resilient, sustainable, and compliant manner by proactively identifying, monitoring, and mitigating risks that could impact the organisation’s objectives, reputation, or financial health. The Sub Committee provides strategic guidance and oversight to the Executive and Council, supporting robust internal controls, effective governance, and regulatory compliance. Through its work, it safeguards operational integrity, financial sustainability, and the wellbeing of staff, volunteers, and members.


Purpose

The RM exists to protect and strengthen the AIOH by proactively identifying, monitoring, and managing strategic, operational, and financial risks that could affect the organisation’s objectives or reputation. It supports the Executive and Council in ensuring robust internal controls, effective governance systems, and regulatory compliance.

The Sub Committee also plays a critical role in safeguarding operational integrity, financial sustainability, and the wellbeing of staff, volunteers, and members by overseeing risk management practices across all areas of the Institute.

Key Activities

  • Maintain and regularly update the AIOH enterprise risk register, including risk identification, rating, and mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct annual and periodic reviews of risks, internal controls, and operational compliance.
  • Monitor financial governance, including budgeting, auditing, reporting, and insurance coverage.
  • Provide quarterly reports to the Executive highlighting major risks, financial trends, and operational compliance issues.
  • Assess the effectiveness of internal control systems and recommend improvements or external reviews when required.
  • Ensure work health and safety systems are implemented, maintained, and reviewed across the organisation.
  • Review operational practices, policies, and procedures for compliance with regulations and AIOH standards.
  • Advise the Executive and Council on emerging risks or significant events that may impact AIOH’s objectives or reputation.
  • Support strategic decision-making by providing insights on risk exposure and mitigation strategies.
  • Evaluate and recommend updates to financial and business risk management policies, including investments and insurance.
