AIOH Chapter Meeting – Queensland – July 14th 2025
Welding fume has become a key health challenge across mining, construction and manufacturing sectors, particularly following the fivefold reduction in the WES. Reputable literature highlights that welders are frequently over exposed to welding fumes. With the obvious need to further control exposures, where should a Hygienist begin?
This presentation provides an overview of common welding processes, offering practical information to support exposure characterisation. Drawing on industry led findings across numerous QLD mines, typical welding tasks are benchmarked against their exposure potential to support prioritisation of exposure assessment and/or control.
