The Mentoring Sub Committee supports the professional development of AIOH members by fostering mentoring relationships, nurturing personal growth, and creating pathways for members at all levels to actively engage with the Institute. Through guidance, knowledge sharing, and peer support, the committee helps members enhance their skills, confidence, and professional standing.

Purpose

The primary role of the Mentoring Sub Committee is to develop the professional capabilities of AIOH members, empower them to grow, and provide opportunities for involvement in the Institute. The program aligns with two key AIOH objectives:

  • Promoting the profession of occupational hygiene.

  • Improving the practice, knowledge, competence, and standing of occupational hygiene practitioners.

Key Activities

  • Oversees mentoring relationships focused on technical skills, professional knowledge, problem-solving, risk management, communication, and ethics.
  • Supports management and supervisory skill development where appropriate.
  • Ensures mentoring is mentee-focused, confidential, collaborative, and committed.
  • Provides resources and guidance for mentors and mentees, including program induction and guidelines.
  • Monitors and evaluates mentoring outcomes to continuously improve the program.

Emerging Hygienist Group (EHG)

The Emerging Hygienists Group is a peer-led community for Students, Associates, and Provisional members. Guided by the Mentoring Sub Committee, the group:

  • Offers a supportive space for connection, learning, and career development.
  • Hosts engagement via LinkedIn and AIOH online platforms.
  • Promotes awareness of mentoring and professional development opportunities.
  • Provides early-career insights to help shape and improve mentoring programs.
  • Encourages participation in AIOH activities and pathways toward Full Membership.
