The Strategic Advisory and Planning Sub Committee (SAP) plays a central role in guiding the long-term direction of the AIOH. By providing strategic advice, monitoring progress, and offering historical context, the SAP ensures that the Institute’s initiatives are aligned with its vision, objectives, and member needs.

Purpose

The Strategic Advisory and Planning Sub Committee (SAP) exists to guide the AIOH in setting and maintaining its strategic direction. It ensures that the Strategic Plan is regularly reviewed, updated, and translated into practical, prioritised Annual Action Plans that align with the Institute’s vision, objectives, and member needs. By providing expert advice and recommendations, the SAP supports the Executive in making informed, strategic decisions that reflect both current priorities and long-term goals.

The Sub Committee also ensures alignment across all AIOH Committees and Sub Committees, helping to coordinate efforts so initiatives are consistent with the broader strategic objectives. By offering historical context, lessons learned, and ongoing monitoring of progress, the SAP helps the Executive maintain continuity, identify emerging opportunities, and make decisions that strengthen the Institute’s effectiveness and impact.

Key Activities

  • Conduct biennial reviews of the Strategic Plan, incorporating input from the Executive, Committees, Sub Committees, and members.
  • Identify gaps, emerging opportunities, and trends to inform strategic updates.
  • Translate strategic priorities into recommended annual initiatives, with suggested metrics for monitoring progress.
  • Liaise with other Committees and Sub Committees to track alignment and progress against strategic goals.
  • Provide historical context, briefing papers, and guidance to support Executive decision-making.
  • Participate in strategic workshops and planning retreats as invited.
  • Ensure transparency and accountability by documenting meetings, recommendations, and decisions.
  • Periodically review and update the Sub Committee’s Terms of Reference to reflect evolving strategic needs.
