Join us for a timely and practical session focused on managing asbestos in soils across the lifecycle of major projects — from early planning and demolition through to procurement and development.

This 45-minute presentation will explore lessons learnt on the ground, including indicators, sampling methods, and mitigation strategies that help de-risk projects and ensure asbestos-related risks are effectively managed.

Our expert panel includes:

  • Richard Griffin (EPA Environmental Auditor, Senversa)

  • Corey Banister (Contamination Specialist, Aurecon)

  • Shane Collins (Certified Occupational Hygienist, Prensa)

They’ll share real-world insights from environmental audits and Big Build projects, providing valuable takeaways for practitioners, consultants, and duty holders alike.

🔍 Also featured: A walkthrough of WorkSafe Victoria’s new online guidance on managing soil contaminated with asbestos — a clear and accessible reference that all professionals working in this space should be across.

When registering you will be redirected to the ACLAC website.

PRESENTERS

Richard Griffin

(Senversa)

Richard Griffin is a Principal Environmental Scientist and EPA appointed Environmental Auditor (Contaminated Land) with over 23 years’ contaminated land experience in the United Kingdom and Australia, plus general geotechnical and occupational health & safety assessments.  Richard has directed contaminated land works on numerous level crossing, road upgrade, brownfield development and precinct development projects, where the management of asbestos in soils continues to present challenges during site demolition and construction works, well after the completion of environmental audits.

Corey Banister

(Aurecon)

Corey has over 20 years of contaminated land experience, with a majority of his experience on major transport infrastructure projects. Corey has held senior technical roles on level crossing removal projects, Metro Tunnel Project, Geelong Fast Rail Project, West Gate Tunnel Project and the Suburban Rail Loop Project. Corey has worked on numerous asbestos in soil projects in his career, he has been on the ACLCA Asbestos in Soil Sub Committee since 2009 and was a former NATA-appointed asbestos laboratory signatory.

Shane Collins

(Prensa)

Shane has been consulting in the fields of occupational hygiene and contaminated land for over 15 years, and has specialised in the evaluation and management of asbestos contaminated sites. Recently Shane has been involved in many of Victoria’s Big Build Projects, including the Suburban Rail Loop and North East Link, where asbestos has represented a significant contaminant of concern and project risk. Shane is a Certified Occupational Hygienist with the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists.
