Health & Safety Month Breakfast, Partnership Event with WorkSafe Victoria and AIOH
Join WorkSafe Victoria and the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH) for a free breakfast and informative discussion as part of Health and Safety Month. This session will explore issues relevant to occupational hygienists, including spray-painting (isocyanates), welding fumes, occupational respiratory illness and workplace exposure limits.
We’ll have time for any questions you may have at the end of the session.

Halil Ahmet, Principal Occupational Hygienist, WorkSafe Victoria
Halil is a Principal Occupational Hygienist with WorkSafe Victoria, manages a team of Occupational Hygienists and is appointed as an Inspector under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Dangerous Goods Act. Halil has been engaged with WorkSafe Victoria as an Occupational Hygienist since 1990 and in that time has visited hundreds of workplaces regarding a wide range of hazards including silica, asbestos, spray-painting, noise and welding fumes. Halil has provided training to WorkSafe Inspectors on a range of hygiene related topics including silica, asbestos, noise and welding fumes and the recent reduction in its exposure standard and represents WorkSafe Victoria on various groups including the Welding Safety Council.
Dr Ryan Hoy, MBBS MOccEnvHlth FRACP PhD
Dr Ryan Hoy is a Respiratory Physician from Melbourne, Australia with a master’s degree in occupational health. He is the lead physician for the Occupational Respiratory Clinic at the Alfred Hospital and is a Senior Research Fellow at the Monash University Centre for Occupational and Environmental Health. His primary research is in the field of occupational causes of respiratory diseases, and he has 35 publications on the topic of silicosis. In 2019, Dr Hoy was appointed to the National Dust Disease Taskforce, and in 2022 chaired the National Silicosis Prevention Strategy, facilitated by the Lung Foundation of Australia.
