Join this AIOH webinar to examine why occupational hygiene must advance beyond traditional hazard-centric frameworks to address the systemic and social health hazards affecting workers in Chile’s copper mining industry. Dr Holly Fletcher will present the results of mixed methods research from Codelco’s División Andina, demonstrating how non-communicable diseases interact with extreme working environments, altitude exposure, and organisational factors to significantly impact worker health and business continuity.
Presenter
Dr Holly Fletcher is a distinguished health and safety leader with over 20 years of experience managing complex health and safety risk governance and systems, both in Australia and internationally. Currently, the Technical Health and Safety Director at Sydney Metro, Holly, leads a team of technical specialists who govern the performance of delivery partners tasked with executing a $65 billion infrastructure program. Her expertise lies in providing assurance that risks are systematically identified and managed throughout all phases of the asset life cycle. Dr Fletcher’s career spans a diverse array of high-risk sectors, including mining, oil and gas, and major tunnelling. A Certified Occupational Hygienist (COH) and Full Member of the AIOH, Dr Fletcher holds a PhD in Occupational Health from the University of Wollongong. Her doctoral research focused on Chilean copper mine workers, examining how broad socio-political and economic systems directly influence worker health and safety outcomes.

Kerry is an occupational health and safety professional who has been involved in occupational hygiene, health and safety and chemical management for more than 25 years. Kerry has experience within areas of metalliferous mining and processing, coal mining industry, chemical refinery, process plants, power stations, aviation, civil works and construction, Defence and private consulting. Kerry has experienced many workplace hazards and workplace dynamics and as a result has an extensive knowledge in occupational health hazards, their identification, monitoring and control or elimination of them. Kerry holds various qualifications including Certified Occupational Hygienist (COH)®, NSW Licensed Asbestos Assessor and Masters in OHS and a B. Applied Science in Physics and Mathematics. Kerry has been an active member on the Dust and Noise Standing Committee within the NSW Coal Industry, Scientific Chair at the AIOH 2021 Conference, RESP-Fit and is AIOH25 Conference Chair.
