Introduction to LEV Design for Non-Engineers

Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) is often the most effective engineering control to remove contaminants away from the breathing zone of workers. Deciding what a "good" LEV solution looks like can be difficult for occupational hygienists because of the sometimes-complex engineering calculations required to design a system from the ground up. When looking for an 'off the shelf' solution, the combination of competing supplier claims for LEV products and the practice of under-sizing of LEV systems to win competitive tenders, can create uncertainty about system effectiveness, safety and value for money. This presentation aims to give attendees some tools to assess whether an LEV system has been sized correctly and has the necessary safety measures to operate safely.
