Planning for DEE Workplace Exposure Limits and Health in Tunnelling Design

We’re excited to welcome members and occupational hygiene enthusiasts to our first Chapter events for 2026, starting with South Australia and Victoria.

This presentation will touch on the coming changes to workplace exposure limits for diesel engine emissions (particulate and gases) and the forward planning required in the tunnelling industry. It will present some of the health in design work conducted during the planning of the T2D project and talk to controls that have been considered and are planned to be implemented to assist in reducing DEE exposures for workers in the tunnel to as low as reasonably practicable. It will also invite discussion and input about how we approach and manage reducing exposures to levels where technology may not yet make achieving these levels technically feasible or alternatives introduce other significant risks.
