This lecture was presented at the BOHS in Newcastle this year. It covers the build up to the artificial stone ban in Australia and Monash University’s contribution to the evidence -base.

Deborah worked in industry as an occupational hygienist and joined Monash University in 1998. She carries out exposure assessment for epidemiology, including benzene and LH cancer in the petroleum industry, cancer and mortality in firefighters and coal mine workers and silicosis from artificial stone. She has published over 250 papers, reports etc. She is on the External Affairs Committee of the AIOH. She contributed to four IARC monographs, including benzene and firefighting. She is a founder member of the Occupational and Environmental subcommittee of the Cancer Council and has been on the ACGIH TLV committee for 20 years.
