The Victorian Government has released the Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS) and proposed regulations for the adoption of Safe Work Australia’s Workplace Exposure Limits (WEL) for airborne contaminants. Public comment is open from 19 January to 27 February 2026.
The WEL list will replace the current Workplace Exposure Standards for Airborne Contaminants list from 1 December 2026, providing clearer guidance on limits that must not be exceeded.
Key points:
The RIS estimates costs, benefits, and potential impacts on Victorian businesses.
Nine chemicals (e.g., benzene, formaldehyde, respirable crystalline silica) are not included in this RIS.
Materials, including the proposed regulations and FAQs, are available via Engage Victoria.
Have your say: Submissions are open until 27 February 2026.
